The life of Raíces de Aragón (Roots of Aragón) began, before it was born, in the person of its founder and director Angel Martínez Quesada, champion of Aragón three years running (1968, 1969, 1970), winner of the national dance prize and qualified choreographer..

Choreographically he has revived our traditional dances. Some examples are: "La Dolores", (Dolores) "Gigantes y Cabezudos" (Giants and Cabezudos), "Una Noche en Calatayud" (One Night in Calatayud), "Bolero de Alcañíz" (Alcañíz Bolero), "La Jota Vieja de Alagón" (The Old Jota of Alagón), "Danza de los Labradores" (The Farmers' Dance), "Boda en Aragón" (Wedding in Aragón), "Paloteo", "Sobrestante" etc. Special mention in the Europeade of '75, RAI trophy in the Festival of la Scaletta...

In 1977 he formed Raíces de Aragón with some of the great stars of our folklore in order to compile and bring to light the music, songs and dances of our land, immediately achieving their acclaimed diffusion in both the national and international spheres.

In these ten years its development, rooted in the deepest of Aragonese feelings, has been recognised and signalled by, among others, the following prizes:

  • Silver Cup of the French Basque Country,
  • The Laurel Mountain of Lower Aragón,
  • First Prize in Miranda de Ebro,
  • Plaza del Valle de Arette,
  • First and Second Prizes for Aragonese Masses
  • Aragonese popular songs
  • First Prize in Calatayud",
  • First Prize in Puertollano and Fuengirola,
  • The Silver Insignia of Zucaína,
  • First Prize "Carabela de Plata" in the conquest of folk groups in San Juan del Puerto,
  • Special Nomination of "Folklorefiesta" in San Juan (Puerto Rico)
  • Special Nomination of the International Festival in Montrejeau (France).

Raíces de Aragón, as Spain's representative, has been participating in the next festivals and countries:

  • World festival of Humanity in Parisin Paris, the Festival of the Pyrenees, , in the festival of Montrejeau, in Cuba, in Méjico, in the XII Festival of Zielona (Poland), in that of La Grande Motte (France), that of Assemini (Italy), that of Tiberíades and Beer-sheva (Israel).... International Festival of Sidmouth (Inglaterra),  International Festival of Saintes (Francia) during the second century celebration of the French Revolution, International Festival of Folklore in Drummondville (Canada); and participating in festivals of  Montreal, Quebec, Otawa, Carolina del Norte, Corropoli (Italy), San Pedro square and Auditorium Pablo VI (Vaticano), Naoussa and Salónica (Greece), Cerdeña, been acting in Alemania, Austria, Suiza and Luxemburgo as well.

Acting as representatives of our own Autonomous Community, in practically every town and city in Spain, with special mention for taking part in the Days of Aragón-Canary Island Brotherhood, Zaragoza International Meeting and the Alava International Festival.

Raices de Aragón has added two long play records to the discography of Aragonese music, recorded in 1978 and 1983, with 15 and 20 popular Aragonese themes, the result of hard work and professional research of the deepest parts of our Aragonese identity.

Since 1986, the Aragonese folk group Raíces de Aragón has organised and participated (as representatives of Aragón) in the "International Folklore meeting, City of Zaragoza",  asociated festival of C.I.O.F.F. Spain. Raíces has also organized and participated in six editions of the Christmas Festivals at the Mozart Hall of the Zaragoza Auditorium.

Raices de Aragón has represented our region in every Spanish town and regions for instance: Aragón-Canarias friendship Meeting at the TV show "Tenderete", Alava, Burgos, Badajoz, Ronda, Villablanca, Ciudad Real, Pontevedra, Santander, Dos Hermanas Festival and Traditional Music and Dance. First Festival organized at the Zarzuela Theatre in Madrid. The Group also participated in the General Meeting Southerm Europe and Africa CIOFF and in the Traditional Dance Show (First edition) organized by FACYDE.

Raices de Aragón lifestyle has created a role in Aragonese Society during the last years.

Raíces de Aragón, by virtue of how it is and how it has performed over the last ten years, has created its own school.
